Our location in Playa Hermosa, Guanacaste puts us in the center of some of the best diving in the area, plus it is a great central location for visiting Costa Rica's various volcanoes, zip lines, surfing, fishing and horseback riding.

Our recommended tour operator is Papagayo Vargas Tours.  Their bi-lingual guides allow you to sit back and relax while exploring the hot spots of Costa Rica.  Papagayo Vargas Tours specializes in small personalized tours for families and private groups. 

The tours they offer are many, but some of our favourites are the Arenal Volcano tour (be sure and visit the hot springs! We recommend Hotel Baldi), The Palo Verde river tour, the Monteverde cloud forest tour and the Buena Vista-Rincon mega tour combo.

Palo Verde National park tour is a very relaxing float trip on the Tempisque river.  This trip is a bird lover and nature lovers must, you will see several types of monkeys, crocodiles, iguanas and many species of beautiful birds.

Volcano Rincon de la Vieja is only a couple of hours drive away and not only is it a beautiful drive up, but there are many activities every one can enjoy. There are canopy tours, horseback riding, hiking, waterfalls, hot springs, boiling mud pits, massages and more.

Another option for visiting Rincon de la Vieja, is to stay at Hacienda Guachipelin or to sign up for one or all of their many Adventure tours. They offer horseback riding, waterfall cannoning, zip lines and river tubing. The hotel is located on a working ranch, which ensures that you will experience the real Guanacastecan culture.

Volcano Arenal is a bit further but well worth the trip.  The drive is absolutely beautiful and as you come around the lake, the views of Arenal are majestic.  This volcano is constantly erupting, sometimes the top is covered with clouds or it is raining (it is a rain forest) but you can always hear it rumbling and if you keep watching, you may get lucky and see the cone when the cloud cap lifts.  You can enjoy the tropical gardens, butterfly gardens, hot springs, canopy tours, horse back tours and water falls. Again, we strongly suggest staying at Hotel and Hot Springs Baldi during your stay there, or if you are there for the day, buy a day pass to their incredible hot springs!

There are also two awesome zip line companies that are only a 30 minute drive away, making them a perfect afternoon activity to do after a morning of diving; Witches Rock and Congo Trail Canopy Tours. 

After diving you could arrange for an afternoon of fishing or a sunset sailing trip in the Papagayo Gulf. Hire a boat to take you to Witches' Rock and Ollie’s Point for a fun day of surfing. You can also combine a surfing and fishing trip, or make it a dive & surf trip plus fishing.

For fishing and surfing, we recommend North Pacific Tours. They offer private and customized surfing, snorkelling, fishing and sunset tours. Their fishing tours include bottom, coastal, fly and casting. For surfing they go out to Ollie's Point or the oh so  popular Witches' Rock.
